Introducing tailor-made fares, for every guest

On 14 September 2015, Etihad Airways launched Fare Choices. For all bookings ticketed before that date, the existing rules apply.

Fare Choices offer our guests the ability to tailor their journey according to their needs. Some guests want to travel light and on a budget, whilst others want to be able to make last-minute travel decisions, carry extra baggage or earn more miles.

We have created new Fare Choices for our Economy, Business and First Class guests. They vary by:

  • How flexible you need it to be
  • What baggage allowance you need
  • How many miles you will earn
  • What other benefits you value when you travel - priority check-in, chauffeur service, upgrade eligibility

Fare choices apply to all bookings, whether you buy through your travel agency, our Contact Centre, or etihad.com.

Economy Class

Economy Breaking Deal

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Etihad Airways changing the fare structure?

Our new Fare Choices have been created with you in mind, to offer you more options and to clearly explain the features which are offered for each fare.

We have also changed our baggage policy so we are more aligned with Etihad Airways Partners, meaning you can enjoy a more seamless travel experience.

I booked my ticket before 14 September but I am flying after this time. Which rules apply?

If your tickets were issued prior to 14 September our old rules apply.

If your tickets are issued on or after 14 September the new fare choice rules apply. If you change your ticket and it is reissued on or after September 14, the new rules apply.

I am an Etihad Guest member. How do these changes affect me?

The new Fare Choices are aligned with the recent Etihad Guest programme changes announced on 8 July 2015.

The changes which have the greatest impact to Etihad Guest members are:

  • More baggage allowance benefits for Silver, Gold and Platinum Etihad Guest members on many routes
  • New mile accrual rates, with more miles earned on higher fare choices
  • Upgrades to a higher cabin will no longer be possible for Etihad Guest members if your ticket was booked in Economy Class Breaking Deals or Business Class Breaking Deals

I am flying from London to Abu Dhabi in Economy Saver, and back in Economy Freedom. Which of the features are included?

For cancellations, the most restrictive rules will apply for your entire journey. All other features are offered for each leg of your journey meaning you can choose different sets of features on your outbound and return trip. This gives you greater control over your journey. You can choose to pay for features on the legs where you need them, and save money when you don’t.

In this instance, for baggage allowance, you will receive one 23kg bag on your flight to Abu Dhabi, and two 23kg bags on your return. You will not be able to cancel either of your flights but you will be able to make date changes according to each leg. On your return journey you will also be eligible for priority check-in and you will earn 100% miles.

I have booked on Etihad but part of my journey is on a partner airline. Which features are included?

Two features that are offered as part of our Fare Choices will be offered whichever partner you fly with: change and cancellation rules and earning of mileage accrual.

However, we want to offer you the widest choice of destinations and so have partnerships with many airlines. It is not possible to align all of our fare choice benefits on all of these carriers. If one of the features offered as part of our Fare Choices is particularly important to you, visit our partner airline’s website to see if they offer it to their customers.

I have purchased a ticket with Etihad and I am unsure what I will receive. How can I check?

If you have purchased a ticket through a travel agent please ask them which of our Fare Choices you have purchased.  Alternatively, retrieve your itinerary on Manage my booking by entering your Etihad booking reference.

If you purchased your ticket directly with us, please visit Manage my booking and retrieve your itinerary by entering your booking reference. You can refer to the top of the page to see what you will receive during your journey. 

Your baggage allowance will also be printed on your ticket, and we offer an Etihad Guest miles calculator which indicates exactly how many miles you will receive for each trip travelled.

What is priority check-in for Economy Class guests?

When you are in Abu Dhabi, priority check-in is a dedicated check-in counter for guests who have purchased the Economy Freedom Fare Choice. In all other destinations, guests who have booked the Economy Freedom Fare Choice will be able to use the Premium check-in counter.

Are there any additional features that I can add to my booking?

We offer a discount for additional baggage, paid for up to 24 hours before your flight. You also have the opportunity to buy travel insurance for your trip or pay for an Economy Class seat with extra legroom.
